Hockey at Swansea University has grown from strength to strength since the introduction of Bay Campus. With constantly rising numbers of Club Members, we are always seeking more ways to get more people involved in playing and being apart of hockey and 2019/20 is no different.

We have a wide range of opportunities for those that are joining Swansea University this year. On the both the Men’s and Ladies side we compete in Premier South of BUCS (British Universities and College Sport) against the likes of Cardiff 1s, Cardiff & Met 1s and Cambridge 1s. We have a total of 4 teams for Men’s and Ladies ranging from elite level down to your newer and more social player.

We also are part of the wider club of Swansea HC which plays on the weekend with even more opportunity with 7 Men’s and 7 Ladies sides that again range from the Elite down to the newer and more social players. This means that no matter the level of hockey you are playing at, you will get loads of game time and make the most out of the hockey season.

Our Ladies 1s compete in the EHL Division One North. Our Men’s 1s compete in the Championship of the VERDE RECREDO league.

Social Swansea

The SUHC is the biggest mixed society in the University and offers a vibrant social scene and is a great way to meet a wide variety of different people. The Men's and Ladies' clubs hold joint socials every Wednesday evening which start separately and later meet at our sponsored bar on Wind Street. Socials are a great way of meeting members from other teams who you wouldn't normally meet on the pitch. Two men and two ladies social sectaries are elected each year by the club and they organise and oversee each social to make sure everyone has the right amount of fun.

We hold a number of other social events during the year, including fancy dress, Team Curry nights, the black-tie Christmas, End of Season Dinners, fundraisers and many more.

Whilst socials are our main events for the club getting together and having a good time, we also have our annual Hockey Tour during the Easter half term where we have previously gone to places such as; Croatia and Catalonia. This is the perfect opportunity for you to relax on the beach, enjoy a refreshing drink and make true friendships for life.
Whilst tour and socials are incredible, the biggest weekend of the year by far is easily the "Old Boys Weekend" where previous hockey members descend on Swansea for a jam packed weekend consisting of 2 socials and an entire day of hockey in the form of a tournament. This is the perfect opportunity to connect with older members of the hockey family, to hear about their experiences in Swansea and to see what the hockey society at Swansea is all about.

Looking Back at Varsity

The Welsh Varsity takes place every year between Swansea University and Cardiff University. It is the second largest of the British varsity games, behind Oxford v Cambridge. The hockey match is watched by hundreds of students and has featured many past and present international players.
