U11 Girls Beat the Clock

First tournament of the season shows good promise

The Under 11 Girls had their first tournament of the season at home on Sunday.

A last minute loss of the Team Manager and Organiser to injury meant a manic start and lots of introductions to new players and parents. Once the excitement of getting new team shirts (thank you Mr Laserzone) had settled down the team came together into a huddle to organise. Emily Middleton heroically volunteered to go in goal following her injury plagued season last year.

The team were a little nervous in the opening few minutes of the first game against Brecon but quickly grew into the game, with the calming influence and experience of Emily in goal and solid defending from Isla Davies to the fore. As they grew in confidence their superior skills started to dominate the opposition, and the goals started to flow. With midfield dynamos of Lauren Goodman and Megan Manwaring creating plenty of chances, strikers Olivia Kett-White and Millie Jenkins helped themselves to hat tricks, in a game that finished 6 – 1.

The second game of the morning against Gwent B was much closer, but Swansea’s squad strength and rotation policy eventually paying dividends. Swansea were under pressure from the start, but with a number of vital tackles from Romilie Goodman and with Scarlet Willis and Lotty Arnold gaining midfield dominance Rosie Jones was freed to use her stick skills to create chances for Olivia and Millie. A closer game but Swansea edged it 3 – 2.

The final game was against a strong and determined Gwent A side. Having lost a couple of players to a football game of all things, the squad was a little depleted. Despite the best efforts of the remaining 8, Gwent were a little too strong on this occasion and were deserved winner 3 – 0

Thank you to Lindsey for stepping as Manager, to Chris Wall for umpiring at the last minute and to all the parents and supporters for their encouragement.
