The Under 18 Boys picked up the first national title for the newly formed "Swansea City Hockey Club" carrying on the successes achieved last year as Swansea Bay.
Swansea went into the game as firm favourites, but were shocked by the pace and hard work of a battling Whichurch side. But for a couple of sharp saves from Hamish Addey, Whitchurch would have taken a deserved lead. However, against the run of play, Swansea's Ben Wigmore made the decisive break of the match before feeding Dan Kyriakedes who slotted the ball home to take a 1-0 lead at the break.
The second half saw a big turnaround, with Swansea becoming increasingly dominant, yet failing to take their chances to make the game safe. Whitchurch continued to threaten until the final whistle, but a composed performance from sweeper, Myles Dyer and newly converted defender Ed James helped keep the final score at 1-0.
This was the final game in Swansea colours for club stalwarts Ribhu Choudhuri and Daniel Youhana who will be leaving next season to become drunken students. The pair went up to receive the cup with Ribhu making a fine speech and Daniel seconding his comments!
